   曾問老師一個問題, 如果在圖鑑上看到一件古董家具很喜歡,有辦法做的出來嗎? 老師很有把握的說可以,我進一步問,可是沒有尺寸圖,怎麼有辦法? 這時老師才從古人還坐地上的時代,一直到現代坐具的演變,說明尺寸並不是重點,重點是我自己要怎麼做我的家具, 這樣的說法,打破我原有狹隘的想法, 受現代教育及工程科學的腦袋,始終無法理解為何不需尺寸圖? 老師給的作業不是都會有尺寸圖嗎?

    老師雖有給尺寸圖,但初時拿到會覺得還少很多資料,如細部詳細構造和尺寸闕如,頂多就是三視圖和標示長寬高及重點尺寸, 隨著工序進行,許多細部及尺寸皆順勢產生, 也就是做到哪個階段,自然就出現, 很難想像吧? 我若是告訴產線你就邊作邊改,準會被罵死.

    但我要強調的是, 其實這當中還有一些原則與經驗法則,不是隨隨便便就可這樣做,例如:榫頭/榫肩的比,  甚麼地方該用甚麼卯榫結構?這些都會隨個人的技藝及經驗而有所不同, 也會因作品層次而有不同考量.

   想通之後,我得到一個結論" 活用", 能活用,才能超越.

 

  "Can it be possible to duplicate an antique furniture which is my favorite one from book or picture?" , I asked Master.   Master said with pretty sure "Yes"

  Further more I asked "But how? Without detail dimensions?"  Master then  illustrated  the furniture revolution from the antcient period people sitted on the ground to the modern  times the way people sit.  To explain the dimension is not the  point, the key is what we like to design and make our own style.

   I can't understand why no detail dimensions need  as that against my traditional narrow impression. "We always have a drawing with dimensions from Master for practicing, doesn't it? "  As modern educated in engineering science, I relally don't understand. 

   Although there is a 3-view drawing , but still many details absent. There are only L.W.H and some critical  dimensions.  While working procedure proceeding, many details comes  up just the way it is.  Can you image that? The details just there  following the working procedure.   I will be dead if I ask the production line just go ahead  producing without SOP.

   A major point must be noted here, some experienced principle is necessaary for above operation.  Such as: the ratio of tenon head and shoulder, what kinds of tenon to be adopt in right place.  This will be varied regarding personal skill and experience.  And the articles level may affect the final design as well.

    After thoughtfully thinking , a conclusion comes to me:" flexable,  only flexable utilizing can get big jump over tradition."
